Consisting of a maze of stormwater lines, sewer lines and pits, grease trap and trade waste lines of
which we were to be build over with a proposed deck and outdoor roof, maintaining the operational
function and compliance of the facilities was of the upmost importance throughout this process.
Ground
scans and pipe locators were used to ensure all services were detected and marked out prior to
commencing excavation for the footings. Incorporated into the deck design are concealed lids providing
access to the grease trap and sewer pits. Comprised of custom designed steel trusses and long span
insulated roofing a minimalist look is achieved, whilst forming the basis for the all year round retractable
roof system allowing the roof to be opened up in fine weather and closed during inclement conditions.
The end result is a large outdoor space which the client has the versatility to hold functions or use as an
everyday area for patrons to sit outside and embrace the beautiful Port Macquarie weather. The catch
was does the retractable roof impede the fire separation from the Inn to the neighbouring property,
initial indications were this is not achievable and left a lot of heads scratching, but eventually the issue
was overcome with a suitable system being selected that can be classified as an attachment with fabrics
that meet the requirements for flammability.
Continuing the theme from the courtyard into the bistro privacy screens were installed, more custom
booth added and floor coverings upgraded to high traffic areas with a durable timber look tile to ensure
the Inn would remain looking its best for years to come.
Continuing through the building next on the hit list was the gaming lounge. With no external walls
backing onto the lounge the workable solution was to frame out the roof and opening it up for
maximum ventilation which flows down through to indoor gardens below generating a different to a
normally hum drum space. Additional upgrades to the gaming lounge included new Male and Female
toilets directly off the room, a sleek designed bar for VIP customers and back of house facilities for the
Inn.
To complete the build the façade was upgraded to provide a taste of what patrons could expect upon
entry. New modern straight lines accompanied by the softness of real Sandstone blockwork draw you to
the entry points of the building whilst providing plenty of room to accommodate the new L.E.D lighting.
