12 weeks to complete, 2000m2 ground floor area, an 800m2 mezzanine from scratch with a custom
access lift ... welcome to World Gym.
The clean lines of the Café greet you as you first enter the building, from here you enter the corridor to
the main gym floor which is where you start to get a feel for the enormity of space. The high tech
members lounge, an area to sit and relax with friends or wind down after a workout.
From here you enter the main gym floor to the power lifting zone, normally feeling closed in by low
ceiling in gyms your eyes start to wander in ore until they land on the custom hand painted murals on
the walls, painted with such care the 3D effect of the artwork leaps off the wall in to the room.
The mezzanine floor created from scratch has been designed to take the live load of all activities
performed in the gym requiring oversize footings to support the 150 SHS columns carrying the
combination of 560 and 460 UB’s to disperse the floor loads, with counter levered sections specifically
positioned creating more usable space on the gym floor. With the engineering to the mezzanine taken
care of now fire compliance needs to be addressed, but conventional fire sheeting just wouldn’t cut it,
utilising CSR latest product Glasroc – F all supporting members were meticulously concealed to ensure
full compliance. Overlooking the main gym floor from the Mezzanine is the Cardio deck, typically and
area laced in a spiderweb of cables to the array of treadmills and fitness bikes, this area has been given
the same attention to detail. Electrical and data cables run through the floor frame to carefully laid out
concealed floor boxes minimising the lead length from the machines.
Can’t get up the custom steel stairs with Blackbutt treads, not a problem. A custom lift from Harwell
provides floor level specific entry and exit points allowing to the lift to be installed in the optimal
location to suit the floor layout. Continuing upstairs you have the main Spin and group fitness rooms
featuring a sound system to shame most night clubs, careful attention was paid to ensuring the music
and vibrations did not disrupt the other gym users. Installing sound insulation to walls, ceiling, and floor
spaces along with insulating any metal points that could vibrate reduces that transfer throughout the
building to common spaces and neighbouring tenancies.
